1. What were the key ideas/conclusions (at least 2) that you take away from this project?
2. Of the 5 stocks in your portfolio, which stock was the best performer? Why do you think it performed so well?
3. Is there anything about this project that you would change for future classes?
1st Student
1. I learned many things from this investment project. One example is that with such a short timeframe, such as the 8 weeks for this project, your risk tolerance is extremely low. This is because you don’t have any time to recover from any sort of loss, big or small. Because of this, a more conservative strategy is better for short-term investing. Another thing I learned is that dividends can play a much more important role than I had realized.
2. The highest-performing stock I had in my portfolio was DICK’S Sporting Goods. Over the 8 weeks, it had a return of 3.5%. I believe this could be due partly to the fact that it outperforms the industry and sector averages in most key measures, such as P/E ratio, Price/Book ratio, Book Value, and EPS.
3. I don’t think I would change anything about this project, except maybe the length. The only reason I say that is because if the project had gone for a few more weeks, I would have had 3 more stocks pay dividends. In the 8 weeks, I had only 2 stocks pay dividends. Obviously, this would have helped boost my portfolio.

1. What were the key ideas/conclusions (at least 2) that you take away from this project? One key idea about this project was taking time and doing research into these companies you wanted to buy. Without the ability to buy or sell, you had to just sit on these stocks and hope that they would grow. Another takeaway from this project was that if you want to make the most money you can you have to be an active investor watching the market and find times to buy and sell to maximize profit.
2. Of the 5 stocks in your portfolio, which stock was the best performer? Why do you think it performed so well?
My best stock was Citigroup. It grew by 5.42%. I think that I happened to buy at a really low point so it made it easy for the stock to grow.
3. Is there anything about this project that you would change for future classes? I would change it so you are allowed to sell and buy at week four to look back and see if there is anything you would like to change.
