PART 1: PREPARE FOR YOUR SIMULATION

To support your Simulation experience, review the Simulation Meeting Notes you developed in Week 5 and the questions (below) that guided your meeting notes:

How will you begin the meeting?

Using facilitation and active listening skills

Greeting both the manager and the employee

Creating a safe space to foster open dialogue

Discussing the purpose of the meeting.

How will you use active listening skills as you begin to guide the collaborative conflict management process, including:

Asking each person to share his/her perspective

Acknowledging that you are listening to each person’s perspective by asking questions and/or paraphrasing and demonstrating appropriate body language.

How will you facilitate solving the conflict by:

Sharing the Global ProTech flextime policy

Using active listening skills

Utilizing the recommended collaborative conflict management strategy/steps with the goal of presenting a solution that respects both people’s needs

How will you end the meeting cordially, including:

Summarizing what has taken place

Establishing a check-in plan for progress

Next, during Week 7, you will participate in a Discussion requiring you to reflect on your Simulation experience. Here are the Discussion questions you will need to address:

Reflect on how the meeting with the employee and manager went and discuss at least 2 key takeaways from your simulation experience.

Analyze the approach you took, as well as your skills, with regard to guiding the collaborative conflict management process and using active listening.

Discuss the effectiveness of the collaborative conflict management strategy you used and share your rationale.

Were you satisfied with the way you brought the meeting to a close? Why or why not? In what ways might you have improved this vital step in conflict management in the workplace?

After your Simulation is complete, take time to prepare for the Week 7 Discussion by writing down a few notes that will help you respond to these questions while the experience is still fresh in your mind.

Important Note: You will not be graded on your performance during the Simulation activity this week; rather, this exercise is a tool to practice your skills and reflect on your collaborative conflict management skills.

After your Simulation is complete, take time to prepare for the Week 7 Discussion by writing down a few notes that will help you respond to these questions while the experience is still fresh in your mind.

PART 2: PARTICIPATE!

Complete your Conflict Management Simulation at your scheduled day and time, but no later than Day 7. Your simulation session will be recorded and you will receive a Recorded Simulation Link in your email within 24 – 48 hours. Submit the link received in your email to receive participation points for this activity. If your simulation is scheduled to take place on day 7, this assignment will remain open until Wednesday of the following week, which will give you time to receive your recording, via email, and submit it.
