Although this assignment will seem similar to one from NSG7200 and NSG7205, you are being asked to introduce and update everyone on your project and practicum experience. This will assure that your facilitator and fellow students have a frame of reference for your work.

Briefly describe your preceptor and his or her academic qualifications and experience and provide a brief description of the practicum site. Describe your population or problem of interest and the challenges, issues, or concerns surrounding this topic. What objectives have you set, and how do you plan to meet these objectives? Critique each article, highlighting the strengths and the weaknesses of each article. Look at the articles from the perspective of a DNP who is evaluating and critiquing the system. In this assignment, you will discuss meaningful use as a segment of the use of informatics in health care. Start by looking at the website www.healthit.gov and review the current federal directive on meaningful use. Then look for peer-reviewed articles which discuss segments of this approach. In particular, look for articles which either highlight the role of the DNP or provide information which would be useful for a DNP who provides leadership in the development of these programs in a particular setting. Reflect upon what you have read and consider the ways this information can be utilized in relationship to your capstone project.

Quality Improvement and Evidence Application

In this assignment, you will discuss additional quality improvement methods. Look at Nursing Quality (NDNQI) and review the available information on The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators® (NDNQI) which is a proprietary database of the Press Ganey Associates, Inc. Explain the importance of this database and how the DNP can help to encourage a hospital to participate in this program. Review the literature for two peer-review articles describing various aspects of the program. Reflect upon how you might be able to use this type of information in your capstone project.

This will be the final week of collecting evidence. As you work on your Capstone project, think about the implications of your project for your work with other professionals. Based upon your literature search, what strategies might you use to avoid problems with your project?

Clinical Seminars

This week, you will deliver a 15- to 20-minute professional presentation of no greater than twenty Microsoft PowerPoint slides with voiceover presentation (exclusive of references) to your classmates. The presentation will be a collation of the evidence (articles) you have retrieved about your capstone topic. Use the articles that you have retrieved each week as the basis for your discussion question. The evidence should be presented in support of nursing standards and patient safety toward your topic of interest. In addition, the presentation will offer an introduction to your problem or population of interest, and describe the methods, data collection, and analysis proposed to conduct the project. Discuss your “next steps” as you move forward in your advanced field experience.

As you critique your weekly articles, explore the reasons for any similarities or differences within the evidence, and discuss the strength of that evidence. Present and analyze how it supports nursing standards and patient safety.

Look for two peer-reviewed articles which provide some insight into the QSEN standards and how they can be implemented within nursing. Reflect upon how this can be used within your capstone project.
