   Being aware of the challenges to implementing EBP can aid the APN in their ability to effectively influence the adoption of EBP both organizationally and individually.  To be an effective change agent, the APN should take the lead in disseminating knowledge by being a member of committees that author policies or procedures; spearheading in-service training; challenging unsupportive cultures; presenting the economic business case for the endorsement of EBP to healthcare administration; taking opportunities to do one-on-one knowledge transfer with colleagues; encouraging others with peer coaching; assisting colleagues in synthesizing the research findings; to being the first to bring forth the issue and the related research that warrants a change in practice. 

   There are many situations where the APN does have the autonomy to implement EBP changes to their individual practice of nursing, regardless of the organization’s philosophy.  In these situations, the APN should approach their practice change with the mindset of a researcher.  They should always evaluate the change and did the new intervention achieve the desired outcome.  The APN is empowered to suggest and enforce the application of EBP and it is their responsibility to see such to fruition, both individually and organizationally.
