Case Study 1: 

Samantha Fyson, preferred to be known as ‘Sam’ is your 19-year-old female, bisexual client (07/05/1999) who has brought her partner Harmony in for moral support. Sam has presented to yourclinic for a capillary blood collection for a fasting BGL after persistent symptoms of increased thirst, increased fluid intake, increased urination, and general malaise over the past few weeks. Sam has a familial history of T2DM and has concerns that she too has developed the disease therefore requiring the fasting fingerpick test for her blood  glucose levels, as per her referral from Dr Illyas. Sam has nil medication  history except a course of antibiotics last year foran inner ear infection. Sam reports an allergy to Penicillin and you check to ensureit has been documented, you find the record of Sam’s Penicillin allergy and feel ready to proceed with the sample required, the fasting BGL. You collect the droplet of blood and await the reading from the blood glucose monitor, 30 seconds later the results are ready and read as 14.7 fasting BGL. You provide the reading to Sam and recommend that she attend her referring GP, Dr Illyas at her earliest convenience to discuss the results and further action with her GP.
