Significance: Obesity is a global health issue that does not discriminate based on age, gender, or socioeconomic status and it is a leading cause of other health diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, etc. (Hernandez-Reyes et al., 2019; Lemamsha et al., 2019). Obesity is a condition that is diagnosed with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of an individual 30 and above (CDC, n.d). Obesity prevalence has tripled in the last 35 years, and it is estimated that by the year 2030, more than a billion people will be diagnosed with obesity (O’Donoghue et al., 2021).

Mortality: Individuals with obesity are at risk for other health complications such as diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease which could result in death.

Economic Ramifications: Obesity’s economic ramification is huge in any country’s economy. Annual obesity-related medical costs in the United States of America in 2019 were estimated to be $173 billion, 19% of active-duty service members had obesity in 2020 ( CDC, 2022). Advanced Practice nurse leader’s efforts in preventing, diagnosing, and treating obesity are crucial to the economy of any nation.

My Practice Change Idea to Address the Practice Problem

My practice change is to reduce mortality and prevent healthcare complications by remote monitoring of patients’ physical activity, nutritional intake, and behavioral modification in the management of obesity.

To obtain funding for my quality improvement(QI) funding, I will apply for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) grant, the association awards a $5,000 grant to improve the quality of patient care and to enhance the advanced knowledge of nurse practitioners in their roles. My QI project on obesity will improve the care of diagnosed patients with obesity to ensure compliance with nutritional intake, and monitor and ensure their increased physical activities in reduction of their weight (AANP, 2023).

To be approved for a grant provided by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the applicant must have the following:

? Apply for the grant

? Be a member of the association

? Must be a nurse practitioner worker in the role

? Must be a United States of America Citizen or Resident permit holder

? Must not be a staff, a board member or a relative of AANP

? The QI project must be completed by December 31, 2024

? The QI project must be in research, patient, or provider education

? Applicant must not be a recipient of the grant in the last three years

? The $5000 awarded to be used for the project
