B. Read (or reread) the two assigned articles from last week on nursing education. Use the nursing education class slides too. Cangelosi et al. (2009) did research with clinical experts who were participating in a Clinical Nurse Educator Academy to learn how to be undergraduate clinical instructors. The data were collected by participants completing narratives to three questions. In data analysis three themes emerged: “Buckle Your Seatbelt,” “Embracing the Novice,” and “Mentoring in the Dark.” Additionally, Benner’s Model of Skills Acquisition is clearly evident in this conversation. Considering all this, answer each of these questions. You might note that #2, 3, & 4 are the actual research questions from Cangelosi et al. (2009).

2. Think about what it is like to move from a role as a clinical “expert” to a “novice” educator role. Describe an incident from your own BSN education OR from observing clinical instructors in your RN job that re?ects your concerns about moving from the clinician to the clinical nurse educator role.
3. Think about how you make a difference for patients as an RN. Describe an incident that re?ects your ideas about how you can make a difference for students as they learn new clinical skills.
4. Think about the role of mentoring in nursing. Describe an incident that re?ects your ideas about what you need from a mentor as you move to a new role as clinical nurse educator.
