Considering everything I’ve picked up from the assigned readings thus far, I can successfully argue that a leader who engages in immoral decision-making does not do so on purpose or consciously. The state of being with a definite purpose in mind is what is meant by the term “consciously.” It also refers to being conscious of one’s existence, experiences, ideas, and surroundings, as Dictionary.com (2023) states. If a person is conscious and in the correct frame of mind for making judgments, or if they are aware of their existence, the question arises as to why they would make unethical choices if they are cognizant. Several reasons, including stress, can lead to leaders making immoral actions without even realizing it. Cognitive capacities are negatively impacted by stress. People tend to limit their consideration to a relatively small number of viewpoints and options (Johnson, 2020). According to Almeida et al. (2020), perceived harmful leader conduct is defined as followers’ perception of their leaders misusing their power and displaying actions that cause ongoing or persistent harm to their followers.
