KINES 2500 UU Navigating the Career Odyssey Presentation

Assignment Purpose: The aim of this assignment is for you to reflect on the content of the course and your job-related aspirations moving forward. Additionally, you will develop your communication skills through the creation of PowerPoint slides to communicate information.

What will you turn in?

You will create three PowerPoint slides that reflect your career goals, your primary job/career plan, and an alternate job/career plan.

Slide 2: Primary Job/Career Plan Slide

Slide 3: Alternate Job/Career Plan Slide

We expect you to be as creative as possible on your slides. Visuals, photos, and other design elements are strongly encouraged. Your slides must have the components outlined in the guidelines below.

PowerPoint Guidelines:

1. Career Reflection PowerPoint Slide

This slide should demonstrate what you learned from the career modules and the textbook.

Required components (please label b-e in your slide):

a. Your name, a picture of you, your year in school, your major (and emphasis area), and your intended graduation date.

b. What 3 insights did you gain in the career exploration content in Module 12?

c. 2 Careers: Read through the PowerPoint interviews with the professionals from Module 13. Focus on those that resonate with you (possible career paths). Which two career paths might interest you?

d. 2 Surprises: There are so many different career paths. After looking over the PowerPoint interviews what 2 pieces of information from the interviews surprised you and why?

e. 1 Resources: What campus resource that we covered in the Module for Week 12 can you use to help you in your career journey? What are 2 specific ways this resource can help you?

2. Primary and Alternate Plan PowerPoint Slides:

You will create one PowerPoint slide for each of your plans (i.e., primary and alternate plan). Primary plan: This is your primary career goal/aspiration. Alternate plan: This is another career you might want to explore. The requirements for both slides are the same. Be sure that the information is present for both your plans.

Required components (please label b-d in your slide):

a. Title/Name of the career you are interested in pursuing.

b. Why are you interested this field? Be thoughtful and articulate here. It might be helpful to think about Dr. Magiske’s Module 13 lectures.

c. 3 Specific things you will accomplish in the next 9 months to work towards your career goal for both plan A & B (6 things total, it is OK if one or two or two of them overlap between plans A & B). Big Hint: You need to be specific and detailed in your response. Please recognize that answers such as ‘doing well in class’ and ‘finding an internship’ and ‘shadowing’ are very basic responses– be more detailed and thoughtful. Are there specific campus resources will you use? It may help you to reflect on Dr. Magiske’s Module 13 lecture content. You might have to do a bit of searching online and talking to people (advisors/mentors) to determine adequate responses.

d. 1 challenge you have and how you will successfully navigate it in order to achieve your career goal (one for plan A and one for plan B — these must be different). Be certain to be detailed and thoughtful (say more than one word). It might be useful to consider the university resources that can aid you.
