  • One small example of an attention and perception question is: How do colors and images impact what we choose to focus on, and how do we retain information about what we see?
  • CLASSMATE 1-For this week’s discussion, I found a video that Hank with Crash Course made basically explaining the difference between sensation and perception. Hank explains how a neurologist named Oliver Sacks had a rare neurological disorder that made him unable to recognize faces including his own. The video explains that Perception is the way that our brains organize, interpret, and identify information, whereas sensation involves one or all of the five senses being activated. The reason that Oliver Sacks’ neurological disorder is interesting, however, is that the cause is not due to sensation despite the fact he is using one of his five senses in order to see the faces of others and himself, but instead, it is perception. Oliver Sacks had no issues in seeing other items as they were in the natural environment, only faces, making this disorder an issue with his ability to interpret and store the information his brain gathers when viewing faces.]
  • CLASSMATE 2—In the Disney movie Finding Nemo Dori a regal blue tang fish suffers from short-term memory. In the movie, Dori tries to help Nemo’s dad Marlin search for Nemo. Marlin finds it difficult to work with Dori because she often forgets what she is doing and where she is going. Dori is aware that she has a disability and explains it to Marlin. Despite her disability, she doesn’t let that stop her from helping Marlin find Nemo.
