I think the medical industry would be heavily behind in advancement and sophistication if machines like Therac-25 were discontinued because of their problems rather than have those problems fixed on and worked on so that future machines can benefit from incremental advances in knowledge. The transportation industry would also be very stunted in growth if computers were adopted at a slower pace. Machinery gets more advanced as well, though the underlying roles of specialized machines and vehicles remains largely the same. One technology I’m very interested in seeing is augmented reality. The usage of computerized glasses which can project the digital files for a building onto the real world seems like it could be incredibly useful. It could accurately show where structural elements are supposed to go, how HVAC, electrical wiring, and piping will be run through a structure, and could be used even after construction has completed in future maintenance work to quickly locate points of failure and resolve issues.
