Description: The Gallup Poll has consistently identified the nursing profession as the most highly ranked related to ethics. In addition, the global COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted healthcare environments, societal structures, and daily life. The significance of this data and its dissemination impacts both nurses and those individuals, families, and populations to whom we provide care. This assignment provides the opportunity to uncover the lived experience of a nurse and a consumer about ethical nursing practice. The Code of Ethics of Nursing Practice will be examined and applied to the first-hand accounts provided in the interviews. This assignment will integrate ethics, nursing practice, and dilemmas posed during the pandemic.
Instructions:
1. Interview a nurse in clinical practice, education, administration, or research. You will provide the Gallup poll results and ask for his/her thoughts about the finding including an exemplar from their practice of ethical dilemmas. You will design a 3- to 5-question interview protocol to capture the data. ?Your questions should focus on the role the nurse had in the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Interview a consumer of nursing care. You will provide the Gallup poll results and ask for his/her thoughts about the finding including an exemplar of the nursing care they received. The consumer should be one who received care after March 2020, when the pandemic became widespread in the United States. You will design a 3- to 5-question interview protocol to capture the data. ?
3. You will summarize the interviews in a written paper (no transcripts). You will identify one provision of the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and apply it to each of the exemplars (only one standard, not one for each interview). You will further analyze the selected standard by researching and then summarizing a scholarly reference to support the standard and its significance. You will write a discussion of the standard and of the resource. The reference must be a peer-reviewed nursing professional journal article published within the past 5 years. The length of the paper is 4 – 6 pages, excluding title and references. ?
