Career Path and Professional Development Questions

PART A:

Imagine a point 5 to 10 years in the future when your educational goals have been met and you are in the workforce.  Complete the following tasks, based on what you have learned in this course.

Pathway

a)Describe the post-secondary pathway you have taken (university, college, apprenticeship, work, other training program) to get where you are in 5 to 10 years from now.  Be specific about the program or employment you have been in to lead you to a career (i.e. Name of school and program, Apprenticeship program and employer to apprentice with or Name of employer and job title)

b)Make a list of at least 3 of the learning skills and strategies that were highlighted for you in the MyBlueprint assessments that make this pathway a realistic choice for you.  Then explain how each can allow you to better succeed.

c)Do online research to find at least one website that gives information on workplace trends in your chosen career.  Summarize the information and provide proper citation for the website you used (you may use citationmachine.net)

d)Find a specific job ad online for the career that you wish to have (You can use indeed.com, etc……)

In the Workplace

1. a)You have been offered the job and have started working but realize that there is a co-worker who seems to resent you getting the position and who seems to be spreading gossip about you and others.  Based on what you have learned in this course, explain at least four 4 things you would do to deal with the stress and conflict of this situation.  Be sure to address both how to handle the conflict at work (at least two 2 points) and how to deal with your stress (at least two 2 points)

b)To train for your new position, you have been offered the following options:

Shadow a co-worker who does the same job for the first week so they can act as a mentor

Go through an online video module that explains and demonstrates what you should be doing

Have a hardcopy (paper) manual outlining the tasks in your job that you can refer to as you need.

Choose ONE of the options above and explain why that method would work well for your particular learning style (how you learn).

c)You know that there will be opportunities for you to promote yourself in this workplace.  Describe three 3 specific things that you, as a lifelong learner, can do in this career to improve yourself professionally.

Personally

a)Based on Unit 3, list ONE (1) healthy habit that you wish to acquire within 5 to 10 years.  Express it as SMART goal by answering all the CHART questions using specific examples and in point form bullets.
