AIU The Challenges of Supply Chain Operational Problems Discussion

Global supply chain partners can experience various problems, such as managing the long-range logistics involved during the end-to-end process. Various issues contribute to such operational problems, such as delays at the point of shipment and transit issues, for example.

For this assignment, respond to the following:

• Describe a supply chain’s operational problem, including the factors contributing to the problem, that you have experienced yourself or that you have observed others in your personal or professional life experience.
• What are the primary reasons that supply chain operational problems occur?

Review and consider supply chain operational problems described by two of your peers. One way to respond to each of your peers is to share your thoughts on how these factors contributed to the operational problem. Another approach would be to provide your perspective on other factors that might also be contributing to the active situation.

An operational problem that can be experienced in the supply chain is the human condition. This is the most common factor, instead of applying human error to this I think this is more important. Naturally workers get sick, need time off, have last second reasons they need to leave work. This I have experienced personally with different vendors that have active orders that are to be delivered at a set date at a specific time. It is important that these deliveries are made aptly and when expected. I had multiple orders that were to be delivered from one specific vendor that delivers multiple times during a week and the vendor had multiple drivers take off due to COVID causing a complete setback. I have experienced issues with smaller inconsistencies such as teh wrong delivery address, missing information, and vendors not receiving the special order P.O’s when submitted.

• What are the primary reasons that supply chain operational problems occur?

The primary conditions that would cause operational problems to occur in the supply chain are natural disaster, human error, operational errors, natural conditions such as weather, and infrastructure. All these problems can culminate in similar delays and setbacks for the supply chain, such as natural disaster. You can not deliver material through an area that is experiencing earthquakes. Natural conditions such as weather can delay traffic, completely stop traffic and so on.

Hi there classmates and Happy Friday!

A company can face many problems, one that I have seen in global supply chain occur is delays. These delays can affect the company in various ways one way that it can affect the company is not having the right amount of merchandise on hand due to the product delaying. This can mean that the shipment has not arrived on time meaning that if customers are ordering online and the company hasnt recieved their shipment, this can affect the delivery date for the customer. This can be a challenge for the company and something that they would have no control over. Companies can face with inflation or as it happened recently COVID created several delays. Short supply due to COVID meant competition for some companies due to shortage on certain supplies. Inflation has hurt everyone, its even affected companies as raising costs for shipments and freight costs. Inflation is thru the roof currently and clearly the “people” arent the only ones hurting, companies are also facing inflation as it can throw off their budgets and expectation of costs, such in supply, labor, raising prices in supplies and so on. Some problems that have caused some of these issues is COVID, COVID has changed and made things difficult for everyone. Covid has created a shortage in workers and the demand for certain merchandise has changed due to the consumer changing the way they spend. One major problem that can affect a company is their profit they were seeing before, it is no longer the same due to inflation and costs of material as well as shipment as mentioned before have risen which can throw the company in sticky situation. Some companies have used backward scheduling this means ” It starts with a promised delivery date to the customer and works backwards to determine the date to begin production” (Gaither.N &Franzier G.2015). There are ways that a company can work whats aganist them, this is one method !
