My top three self-care practices include journaling while listening to music or podcasts, taking naps as needed, and making my own home cooked meals.

Journaling, first off, allows me to organize my thoughts and feelings and then I am able to better express myself in a more concise yet specific manner; I tend to journal whenever I feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or when I am just in my own head and I feel that I am holding myself back. While I write I also enjoy listening to something that almost fills up what feels like an empty, quiet room, whether it is music that is soft and easy to listen to or a podcast that furthers my thinking.

Second, I find myself taking naps fairly often, I know some may recognize this as lazy or unproductive but to me it is exactly the refreshment I need to continue about my day. There are times which I feel very helpless and I am unable to do things or be productive, though napping allows me to temporarily escape that burden, and when I wake up I feel more well-rested and therefore more driven to get things done.

Lastly, another major self-care method for me is cooking my own meals. Sometimes, a home cooked meal is just what I need to feel more grounded or comfortable in times of stress. I understand this may also seem like a chore to some people, but being that I enjoy cooking anyways, it is a form of care in my life. Putting the effort into a meal tends to push me to apply the same effort to other tasks I may find discouraging, and as a result I not only get a good meal but also a new wave of motivation.
